The movie is all about Karna (Kishore), who spends his life with his cook-and-friend (Sathyan) in Chennai. Sneha (Smitha) manages to run from Andhra Pradesh where she is forced to marry local don Dronam Raju (Sampath)'s brother. She takes refuge in Karna's house in Chennai. The do-gooder Karna's life takes a turn when Sneha falls in love with him. The latter sends her back to Andhra. A twist in the tale occurs when it is informed that Karna is blind but has learnt to be like any other person. He is good at detecting sound and even practised shooting well aiming a target. Now Karna decides to go to Sneha's rescue. He goes all the way to Andhra and fight all the goons of Dronam Raju which is all but gore and blood. Eventually all is well that ends well.

To begin with, Mr. Ramana is a worried lot because he has remained 'pellikani Prasadu' all along. Let alone entering into a wed lock, he is not even finding bride matches, which his father Chandra Mohan explains away with an analogy. A follower of horoscope, he understands that he should get married in a month's time or he will remain a bachelor forever. Shift to Paris, where he arrives to perform his art of ventriloquism. Enter Prasad (Brahmanandam), who decides to play a mind game with Ramana by making him believe that his daughter-in-law Trisha loves him. Ramana builds castles in the air, but Trisha's conscience grows stricken. Though she does not like fooling around the good-hearted, clean-minded Ramana, circumstances compel her to do so. Back in India, Chengal Naidu (Mukesh Rishi) makes arrangements to marry his son off to our heroine, much against her wishes. Trisha tries to run away, but her efforts fail. The hapless girl, put under house arrest, seeks the help of Prasad. The wily Brahmi sketches a plan and enlists Venky in the mission to free Trisha from her blood-thirsty relatives. What follows next is to be seen on the screen.

Peraanmai Movie Review

‘Peranmai’ is a movie of Jayam Ravi which is filled with high octane action and thrill.

But the action element gets highlighted in the second half and the thrill element disappears from the frame leaving the audiences a bit overdosed with action.

Story

Dhruv (Ravi) is a forest officer by profession and takes on as a guide in the jungle when time of need. He is a tribal who is deprived of higher knowledge and studies and so grows up with immense knowledge as a forest trekker. Dhruv has a superior officer named Ganapathy Ram (Ponvannan) who orders him with a job of training 5 NCC cadets who are college students. He orders them to teach them about flora and fauna in the jungle life.

The girls are tough at heart and never obey the rules and regulations put by Dhruv. They see him as a low grade tribal who is just like a dumbo in a forest and compares him with the frog in the well.

One day during trekking, the five girls and Dhruv come across some 16 dreaded terrorists who have come to destroy the launch of a sophisticated aircraft launched in India.

The international terrorists are well armed and Druv and the five bunch of girls decide to save the country out the criminals.

They succeed a bit in making the conspiracy of the dreaded terrorist fall out. Finally, Druv take on the terrorist along with his bunch of young and beautiful girls and foil their intentions, thus saving India from a major accident.

On the whole, all ends well and the patriotic message comes into the storyline at the conclusion.

Performances

Jayam Ravi with his well toned body and body arms has lived the character up to the required mark in ‘Peranmai’. The actions scenes which involve him are well filmed and the hero has worked hard to get his performance right. His body language was well suited to work out body and this is said to be a highlight in the film. His carrying and suing of weapons is easy.

The group of five girls i.e. Dhanushika, Liyashree, Saranya, Varsha and Vasundhara has played their roles very well in ‘Peranmai’ and have done justice to their characters.

Ponvannan, Vadivelu and so on add weight to the subject and manage to complete the length of the reel with good performances.

The music by Vidya Sagar in ‘Peranmai’ is below average and lacks the zeal in it, but the background score has been composed well.

Cinematography is extraordinary and the scenes of the forest have entertained the audiences the most in ‘Peranmai’

Coming to the big talk which is direction, the director seems to have failed in many departments. Janathan has made the story of ‘Peranmai’ into a big mess at the end and the movie may mostly confuse the audiences than to entertain with its disappointing screenplay which was done by Krishnan.

The movie ‘Peranmai’ was hyped a lot, but the stars like Roland who played a vital character in the movie were not utilized to the mark.

The movie ‘Peranmai’ may sink in this diwali season and so may just reap back the distributors their investments.

For those who acclaimed Selvaraghavan as the most ace screenplay writer and filmmaker, you’ll have to confess your sins…. ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ is a very big disappointment. Sorry to say! Producer Ravendran maybe in a troublesome situation now…. We kindly thank those comments which supported in favor of us. Yes, we have been correct with our presumptions and Selva hasn’t done anything special other than ‘adult factors, semi-nude shots and bad words….’

‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ is a fiction that brings about conflict between the present generations of Chola and Pandian dynasty.

The film opens with a renowned archeologist (Prathap Pothan) found in an isolated land bounded with a nightmarish experience. On the very next day, the newspapers carry news that he’s missing. His only beloved daughter Lavanya (Andrea) an archeologist herself is desolated with the loss. Now, the forest officer Anitha (Reema Sen) with the aid of few ministers and higher police officials embark a journey to unleash the mystery behind archeologist.

They get an aid from local coolies lead by Muthu (Karthi). The trio Muthu-Anitha-Lavanya is into the deep forests along with police official and defense force.

Things are fine and adventurous till they approach the mysterious land where they’re taken into a different world of Chola Kingdom.

Yeah! The descendents of Chola Dynasty still exist ruled by the present king (Parthiban)…

With the running duration of 200mins, we are sure you will regret for expecting a lot from this film. How come the producer was so overconfident after reading the script? Selvaraghavan can be regarded as an arrogant and cocksure filmmaker, who cannot even think about a good concept.

Right throughout the first half, you’ll see dozens of filthy dialogues, guy and gals involved in physical touches. But we can’t understand how come audiences clap and whistle for certain sequences where Karthi pulls down his pants to get injected by Andrea.

Why do these three characters become insane as they enter the land of Chola Dynasty?

You’ll be left with so many questions as you walk out of theatres. Karthi does a best job by keeping us engrossed with his performance right throughout the show. Reema Sen being proclaimed as a descendent of Pandian dynasty is absurd. Selva should’ve tried roping in some Tamil speaking actresses. Andrea hasn’t got any role to perform while Azhagam Perumal is mediocre. Parthiban does nothing exceptionally other than dancing for couple of theme music. Especially watch his dance with Karthi before the penultimate sequences. Selvaraghavan seems to have been more confused in adding and deleting the canned shot during second half.

Songs aren’t really captivating. Except ‘Un Mela Aasadhan’, nothing seems to be good….. Cinematography gets diminished overdosed computer generated graphics. Each and everything in the frame is dominated by DI works. Even most of them tend to be amateurish with high toned grading.

Finally, ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ has no probabilities of surviving at box office more than 4 days. The theatres and multiplexes are lucky to certain extent as they have sold out tickets in advance while other single screens will have to accept the shocking truth – The film is an utter flop.
